TTA Report: The State of Youth with Disabilities in Jackson County
TTA report examines the state's data and finds areas that need improvement.
Youth with disabilities should be given the same opportunities to succeed as any other young person transitioning out of school and into adult life. Unfortunately, our research is finding this is not the case for youth with disabilities in Jackson County.
Jackson County has the second-highest number of youth in transition in Missouri. The state requires school districts to follow up with students with special needs after graduation, and we found that some districts are facing challenges in meeting these state benchmarks. This could mean youth with disabilities are falling through the cracks.
In November, we invited our supporters, board members, and community leaders to the Diastole Scholars Center where we shared the results of our Special Report: The State of Jackson County Youth with Disabilities.
