We are incredibly proud of everything our students and staff accomplished this 23/24 school year. Before we get too deep into our 24/25 school year plans, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate all the accomplishments of TTA’s first full year of curriculum and programming:
At the start of the school year, we encouraged our students to explore different careers with virtual reality goggles. We took them on bus tours to see career opportunities at places like the Kansas City Airport, GEHA, and Costco. We coordinated Real World Learning experiences which are hands-on opportunities to help students explore careers. At the Builders Association, students got to learn how to paint and drywall.
TTA also took our students to the KC DiversAbility College and Career Fair, an event we have coordinated for three years now. It is our capstone event for our students, and we highlighted their achievements in a reverse career fair, so employers got to meet with our students one-on-one.
At the end of the school year, we celebrated some exciting milestones. Five out of seven students at Crossroads Preparatory Academy were hired for summer work opportunities. They will be working this summer at places like Pizza Ranch, Kauffman Stadium, Chicken and Pickle, and Three Trails Camp.
At our Hogan Preparatory Academy cohort, we celebrated all our students' accomplishments, especially our seniors. Ty'Isha already has a summer job lined up and then she is off to college at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis where she plans to study business. Najee was still exploring summer job options as school wrapped up, but he is interested in going into real estate or possibly construction.
Congrats to all our program participants and thank you to the teachers and school staff who have supported TTA and our mission. Together, we're helping youth with disabilities feel confident and prepared as they transition into their next phase of life.
