A group of Hogan Preparatory Academy students recently had the exciting opportunity to tour Lockton in Kansas City, gaining firsthand insight into corporate life. From exploring different floors of the building to getting a glimpse of the vibrant office culture, the students left feeling inspired and energized about their future possibilities. And yes, the foosball table in the break room was definitely a highlight!
During the visit, the students connected with Lockton Learners — interns and young professionals working part-time at the company. These conversations were especially impactful, offering valuable advice and perspectives on navigating career paths. One key message that resonated was the importance of staying open to change. The Lockton Learners encouraged the students not to be afraid of shifting career directions, reminding them that it’s okay to explore different paths until they find the right fit.
The students also received practical tips for making the most of career fairs. The Lockton Learners emphasized the importance of preparing a resume, even if they don't have extensive experience yet. They suggested highlighting school projects, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities to showcase their skills and dedication. Additionally, they advised students to research the companies attending career fairs and come prepared with questions. Demonstrating genuine enthusiasm and knowledge about a potential employer can help students stand out from the crowd.
For Emil, a student passionate about pursuing a career in IT, the tour was particularly exciting. Seeing how a corporate environment operates provided him with a clearer vision of what his future career might look like. Experiences like these help students connect their classroom learning to real-world opportunities and imagine the possibilities ahead.
We’re incredibly grateful to Lockton for their warm welcome and commitment to mentoring the next generation. These moments of connection and mentorship are invaluable, and we know the insights gained will stay with our students as they navigate their own career journeys.
