KC DiversAbility College and Career Fair:
Investing in the Future for Disabled Youth
Kansas City, MO—Everyone deserves a fair shot at a good job. But for many young people with disabilities, finding and keeping a job can feel like an uphill battle. Even though there are many government support programs available, navigating them can feel like weaving through a maze with no map while jumping hidden hurdles.
Now in its fourth year, the KC DiversAbility College and Career fair aims to help youth with disabilities and their families navigate the challenge of graduating from high school. The fair provides an in-person opportunity to meet with organizations and get connected with support systems that will help youth succeed after high school. The fair includes representatives from government benefits programs, employers, college recruiters, and job training programs.
2025 KC DiversAbility College and Career Fair
Date: Friday April 4, 2024
Time: Open to the general public 3 pm - 7 pm
Location: Kauffman Foundation Conference Center 4801 Rockhill Road Kansas City, MO 64110
The Transition Academy (TTA) started this transition fair four years ago to bring the metro’s (Missouri, Kansas, urban, suburban, rural) resources together to support youth with disabilities. TTA Founder Kim Riley remembers how overwhelmed she felt when her son graduated and she doesn’t want other parents to feel like they’re alone.
"Every young person deserves the opportunity to chase their dreams,” said Riley. “Too many young people with disabilities are feeling limited to low-wage jobs. The KC DiversAbility College and Career Fair provides the roadmap, resources, and connections to see their way to the future they want, not one that they are feeling forced into."
The KC Diversability College and Career Fair is free but registration is required. This fair is designed to be interactive, with employers offering on-site job interviews, resume assistance workshops, and on-the-spot sign-up for benefits, training, or services.

About The Transition Academy
The Transition Academy (TTA) is a nonprofit organization focused on supporting youth with disabilities in Kansas City area public and charter schools as they transition from high school to a fulfilling post-secondary life. CEO Kim Riley founded the organization in 2019 after she struggled with her autistic son’s transition into adulthood. Riley decided that students with disabilities deserve a better transition, one that helps students with disabilities connect to their passion and purpose. TTA’s mission is to make economic inclusion a reality for youth with disabilities, especially for young people of color who have historically been failed by systems.
