KC Star Article: Celebrating Kim Riley’s Vision for Disability Employment and Economic Inclusion
The Kansas City Star recently featured Kim Riley, founder of The Transition Academy, in a profile piece by J.M. Banks. Kim’s story is a testament to the power of community support and the determination to create positive change.
As the daughter of a single teen mother, Kim experienced the strength of a community that believed in her potential. That support guided her journey from journalist to community advocate when her own son was diagnosed with intellectual developmental disabilities, and she saw firsthand the lack of opportunities available for youth like him. Determined to change that narrative, Kim founded The Transition Academy to help students with disabilities gain the skills, resources, and confidence to pursue meaningful employment.
Instead of focusing on limitations, Kim encourages us to recognize the talents and abilities of every young person. Her leadership is paving the way for greater economic inclusion and showing what’s possible when we invest in equitable opportunities for all.
We’re incredibly proud of Kim and the work being done at The Transition Academy. We invite you to read her story and join us in celebrating her efforts to build a more inclusive future.
